“Often the greatest fighters have the biggest hearts.”
I have worked with countless babies, but some have left an imprint on my soul.
One of them was Mihir(name changed)—born weighing a paltry 800 grams when he was 27 weeks old. His parents were informed by his doctors that even if he lived, there were possibilities of him being developmentally delayed. His parents were devastated, but they never lost hope.
The Battle for a Future
The first time I saw Mihir, he was in the NICU, connected to a maze of tubes and machines. But behind those fragile eyelids, I glimpsed a warrior.
Neonatal therapy isn’t just about muscle tone—it’s about monitoring and improving neuro protection, neural plasticity and ensuring natural development from day one. Every motion, every touch was a step towards a better future.
Days were converted to weeks and weeks to months. Slowly, Mihir started responding. His responses started getting better, his engagement improved, and he began exploring with the environment.
Mihir took his first unaided steps at 18 months. One of those pure moments of magic—a reminder that even the smallest of babies can overcome the biggest of odds.
Hope in Every Tiny Heartbeat
Mihir’s journey reinforced my faith in the potential of early intervention. He is a healthy and thriving 7-year-old now, proving that with the right support, miracles happen every day.
To all preemie parents out there: your baby is stronger than you think. Believe in them, believe in early intervention, and see them shine.
